Yobe has confirmed its index case of coronavirus, says the Chairman of the Committee on Prevention and Control of COVID-19 in the State, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, who is also the Deputy Governor. He is a 29-year- old who is unmarried and  lives with his parents.

The patient is a staff with a new generation bank in Damaturu.

The announcement of the case is coming after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) reported the case.

The patient is said not to have any history of travel to any of the COVID-19 high burden states, raising fear of community transmission in the state

According to the deputy governor, the committee has immediately swung into action to trace the contacts of the patient and have so far isolated members of his family.

He, however, urged the residents not to panic but observe all the precautionary measures put in place, such as social distancing, and regular washing of hand with soap and water among others.
