Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has cried out over what he described as continued detention of his son-in-law and lawyer.
In a statement on the social media, the former Vice President said, one of the two was detained since three weeks ago while the other was picked just recently.
According to him, the offence they committed was simply supporting his presidential ambition. He has urged those persecuting them to remember that a government’s mandate is to pursue peace and justice for all, not just those who support them.
“My son in law and lawyer have been detained, one for 3 weeks and the other recently. They are paying the price for supporting me.
“I urge those now persecuting them to remember that a government’s mandate is to pursue peace and justice for all, and not just those who support them”, he said.
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was defeated in the February 23 Presidential election by President Muhammadu Buhari. But Atiku has alleged that he won the election but was manipulated in favour of the President Muhammadu Buhari and has vowed to get his mandate through the courts.
Meanwhile, Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie has reacted to the arrest of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar’s son-in-law and family’s financial adviser, Babalele Abdullahi.
Abubakar on Monday said the Economic Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, has arrested his associates for supporting him in the just-concluded presidential election.
But reacting to the development, Onochie accused Atiku of selling the idea that people should walk free when they commit a crime.
She tweeted, ”It’s sad that you are selling the idea that when people commit crimes, they should be allowed to walk free, simply because they are related to you.
”Nigeria has laws which go after and apprehend those who break them. Nigerians must be thankful that you can’t take us back to impunity.”
