Six Die, 600 Houses Destroyed as Windstorm Wreak Havoc in Kano
Tragedy struck in Kano Thursday as windstorm destroyed houses and killed six, The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) confirmed the death of six persons and destruction of 600 houses in four local government areas of the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr Sale Jili, confirmed this to reporters in Kano on Thursday.
Jilli said 1,752 were displaced as a result of the windstorm recorded in Gwale, Rimin Gado, Gwarzo and Kibiya LGAs while the displaced persons are taking shelter with their relatives in the affected communities.
Amongst the dead, according to Jilli, was a person who was electrocuted in Ja’en area while five others died when a building collapsed at Gwale Local Council.
He explained the agency has since deployed personnel to the areas affected by the rainstorm to assess the extent of damage.
The Secretary added the exercise was meant obtain a comprehensive data on the disaster for proper compilation.
