PDP Grants Obaseki, Deputy Waiver To Contest

Hours after the formal defection of the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the party, Friday, granted a waiver to them to vie for any elective position within and on the platform of the party.

Addressing journalists and PDP faithful moments after picking his membership card at the PDP secretariat in Benin, the Edo State capital, Governor Obaseki declared that with his membership of his new party, he had automatically become the PDP leader in the state.

In the euphoria of his new found love with the PDP, the Edo State Governor further declared that he would provide quality leadership that would help the party to victory in the September 19, 2020, gubernatorial vote in the state.

He displayed his membership card to the crowd of supporters and party leaders as declared: “I automatically become the leader of this party. I want to assure all of you (that) I am prepared to provide leadership.

“I am prepared to provide leadership that will lead this party to victory. I am prepared to provide leadership that will not only put PDP into office in Edo State but as a ruling party in Edo State, we will make sure that the level of progress, growth and participation in the political system and our people is unrivalled in this country.

“I am very happy to be here. The reception I have received since I drove in here has been ecstatic. The energy I see in this party is the kind of energy I require to take Edo to the level we should go to next.”
