Enugu Shuts Down House of Assembly Over Member’s Death

The Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Edward Uchenna, on Saturday revealed that the Assembly complex will be shut down in honour of the death of its member representing Isi-Uzo Constituency, Chijioke Ugwueze.

Ugweze had died of heart attack on Friday, according to his younger sibling, Ejike.

Ejike also revealed that his 49-year-old brother was hypertensive and had complained he had symptoms of malaria on the morning of his demise.

Ugwueze was rushed to a private hospital in Enugu before he was transferred to Enugu State Teaching Hospital, Parklane, where he passed on, the evening.

In a statement, released by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, it said the shut down was to fumigate the Assembly complex.

He said, “However, in order to err on the side of caution while the remote and immediate cause of his death is been ascertained, the Speaker Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edward Uchenna Ubosi, has ordered the immediate shutdown of the Assembly complex for decontamination and also suspension of all activities in the complex till further notice.

“Our heartfelt sympathies to the Ugwueze family, the wife and children, the people of Isi-Uzo Constituency, all our distinguished colleagues in Enugu State House of Assembly and Enugu State Government for this irreparable loss.”
