Adamawa Senator Blasts Service Chiefs, Wants Them Out Now
By Ibrahim Abdul
The Senator representing Adamawa Southern Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Binos Dauda Yaroe, at the weekend, came hard at Nigeria’s Service Chiefs, saying they have become flatfooted in the war against insurgency and armed banditry.
The Senator did the critical appraisal of the military Chiefs and their performances in the onging war during a visit to his constituency in Mayo Belwa Local Government Area of the state after commissioning some of his water projects in Numan, Jada and Demsa. The event was designed to mark his one year in office as senator of the Federal Republic.
Senator Yaroe said the Service Chiefs had not only outlived their usefulness in the prosecution of the war against insurgency, they had also become some sort of “tin gods”.
He said their continuous stay in office despite public outcry for their removal had become a cog in the wheel of progress and had made it “difficult to address the insecurity challenges bedeviling the nation due to lack of new innovations and fresh ideas from upcoming officers in the military.”
“The service chiefs who were appointed in 2015,” the senator said, “and were left in the office even as the insecurity problem continues to increase. They have become tin gods. They have demoralized the upcoming officers from springing up new ideas to end the insecurity bedeviling the nation.”
”Their mates in the military have been retired but they have become untouchable. It is the tradition in the military to retire at the service age, or if you are over-aged, you give room to upcoming officers to try their hands. Give them opportunity to try new ideas and grow.
“If you continue to do the same thing every day without results, and you keep going without changes, and you want a different result, people will laugh at you. In fact, one may be seen as insane,” he said.
On his achievements during his first year in the senate, Yaroen he provided free medical outreach in Demsa and Ganye to treat about 12,000 constituents of various kinds diseases. He also thumbed his chest for training 45 youths wealth creation, self-employment, leadership and entrepreneurship while helping them to access loans upon graduation.
As his own contribution to solving the problem of insecurity in the country, the senator said he will sponsor 300 students in any Nigeria university of their choice before the end of his tenure, revealing that 50 students are presently enjoying his scholarship.
Yaroe had earlier commissioned five solar-powered boreholes in different communities, including:Bille and Demsa towns in Demsa Local Government, Green Village in Numan Local Government, Wuro Abba and Jada town in Jada Local Government.
