Exactly eight days after the immediate past governor of Oyo State, Senator Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi, succumbed to the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world, the disease has claimed yet another prominent Nigerian, this time in Benue State.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, of the Benue State University, Makurdi, Prof. Godwin Achinge, died, Sunday, of COVID-19 at a yet-to-be-disclosed hospital in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
Achinge, a top flight academic, was also the vice chairman of Benue State Action Committee on COVID-19.
According to reports, the professor who had earlier tested positive for the viral infection, passed away Sunday afternoon.
A member of the Benue State Action Committee on COVID-19 confirmed Achinge’s demise to the Punch newspaper, saying:
“Yes, we lost Professor Achingi, the deputy chairman of the state action committee on COVID-19 this (Sunday) afternoon,” the member said.
