Oba Palace Attack: PDP Accuses APC of Assassination Attempts on Its Party Leaders
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress, (APC) of plotting to wipe out the party’s hierarchy including the national chairman, Uche Secondus, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State during a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin’s Palace.
Addressing journalists in Benin City, the Edo state capital, chairman of Obaseki/Shaibu campaign council, Mr. Dan Orbih alleged that the attack carried out on the PDP convoy could lead to a serious conflict involving states which had their governors in attendance.
Mr Orbih insisted that the APC had no official engagements at the palace, calling on security agencies to ensure those found culpable be made to face the law.
The Crest reported that pandemonium broke loose when Governor Godwin Obaseki paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin but some supporters of the APC hijacked the moment and were said to have allegedly chanted dirty lyrics at the governor and his entourage.
It didn’t take too long before the APC candidate, Ize-Iyamu came to pay obeisance also to the highly revered monarch as the gubernatorial elections draw close. This triggered the PDP youths who stormed the Palace and engaged the APC youths in fisticuffs.
Several people sustained injuries as motorists had to run away for their lives, however, these motorists didn’t get lucky as their cars were vandalised.
