Guber 2019: My hope is built on God —Okowa
Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa waxed philosophical, yesterday, as he declared that his hope of returning to the Government House in Asaba for a second term was hinged on his unalloyed trust in God Almighty “who is able to do all things”, as well as his above-par performance since he took the reins of government on May 29, 2015.
He disclosed this to congregants at a special prayer meeting in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state. The prayer meeting was organised by a group known as the Bridge Builders in conjunction with the Lumen Christi Family Adoration Ministry.
At the special prayer session, the University of Ibadan-trained-medical doctor-turned-politician said he was cock-sure of victory in the forthcoming gubernatorial poll in Delta State because God was the core of his sojourn in politics as well as his anchor as governor.
Okowa, who was accompanied by his wife, Dame Edith, advised members and lovers of his party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to join their faith with his, trust God, and pray fervently for the party’s and his success at the March 2, 2019 gubernatorial election.
The PDP, he emphasised, must build on solid rock, which he said was Jesus Christ by committing the gubernatorial vote into God’s hands.
He underscored the efficacy of prayers in the affairs of Delta State by citing the peace that had enveloped the place in the last three-and-a-half years of his administration, declaring that the effectual fervent prayers of the saints, the men and women of God in Ika nation had availed much in healing their land.
Though grateful that Deltans appreciated his landmark achievements in the first term, now on its home-stretch, Okowa promised that those achievements, laudable as they were, would pale into insignificance compared to what he planned to achieve in his second term.
Okowa turned a pastor momentarily when he tasked his fellow Deltans to let God into their situations, especially when the storms of life threaten to blow them with the force of monsoon. If they could trust God completely, he added, they would enjoy peace that flows like a river and which only the Almighty can give.
Okowa assured his compatriots that every nook and cranny of the state would enjoy God’s goodness in 2019, and urged them to always pray for the peace of Delta State and Nigeria.
In his sermon, hinged on the programme’s theme: Safety in the hands of God, Rev. Father Mario Dibie urged the people of Ika nation to mobilise support for the governor to enable him continue the good work he had started.
Peter Idion, coordinator of the Bridge Builders group, told newsmen that his group organised the programme to set the tone for Okowa’s campaign, with the aim of putting God first as a recipe for a resounding victory at the poll, come March 2, 2019.
He urged all the people of Ika to throw their full weight behind the governor as he seeks re-election. They rounded up the programme with a prayer rain for Okowa and Nigeria.
