Relief! Sanwo-Olu Approves N5m Compensation to Uber Driver Assaulted During #ENDSARS Anniversary
...Says he did it in the public interest
Reprieve finally came the way of Clement Adedotun, the Uber driver assaulted during the first anniversary of the #EndSARS protest in October 2021, in Lagos, as the newly re-elected Governor of the State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, ordered the payment of the N5 million compensation awarded to him by a court.
Perhaps in the spirit of the moment, Sanwo-Olu, Saturday evening, took to his official social media handles and walls-Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and simultaneously delivered the good news himself.
In the posts, the governor said he had intervened in the matter and directed the state Attorney General to comply with the court order awarding the compensation to the driver who was brutalised by operatives of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Agency (Watch), as well as the police.
He revealed that he had authorised payment of the said sum “in the interest of the public good.”
