D’Tigress Can Shock the World, Says Kida

President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, Musa Kida, has expressed his strong belief that the women’s senior national team, D’Tigress, will fly the country’s flag high and give a good representation of Africa when the 2018 World cup tips off in Spain next month.

The first-ever FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup will take place in Tenerife, Spain from September 22-30 2018, where 16 teams from around the world will do battle to be crowned world champions.

Kida said the present players currently in camp in Lagos are the best available to Nigeria across the world.

The NBBF boss spoke on the first anniversary of D’Tigress victory and emergence as the 2017 Afrobasket championship in Mal, a victory that qualified them for the World Cup in Spain.

The NBBF president enthused that he was hopeful of a good performance.

He said despite the fact that the 2017 set had an eight-game unbeaten run to clinch the Afrobasket title after 13 years of endless wait, the current crop of players are an upgrade of the 2017 team.

“I think this is one of the best women’s teams that we have, going to such a tournament and I am also very hopeful and quite encouraged by what I have seen them do,” the NBBF boss said.

He assured that the federation will work closely with the technical crew to ensure that the best players are picked from the pool available, to represent the country at the World Cup.

Kida restated the NBBF’s commitment to give all the support necessary to the team for an excellent performance at the global competition.

“My commitment to the country and basketball stakeholders is that we are going to put up an excellent show,” he said. “So, let the game begin.”
