Ekiti Election Petition: Tribunal To Rule for Fayemi, Olusola on Monday

The Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja will, on Monday, deliver judgment on the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, challenging the victory of the All Progressives Congress flag bearer, Governor Kayode Fayemi, in the July 14, 2018 election.

Towards this end, the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Asuquo Amba, has cautioned politicians in the state against illegal assemblies or protests capable of igniting violence.

Punch reports that Olusola, who scored 178,223 as against Fayemi’s 197,459 votes, is praying the tribunal to upturn APC’s victory based on alleged cases of vote buying, alteration of results, falsification and balloting snatching.

The Police Commissioner, who said the Command would not allow anyone to destabilise the state under the guise of protest over the outcome of the judgment, said the Command’s ‘Operation Make Ekiti Safe Squad’ was on ground to tame any unlawful assembly.

Amba, represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, Caleb Ikechukwu, said: “This squad is a Joint Task Force comprising the Police and other sister agencies with about 150 men.

“They are spread all over the state and being overseen by the Police. So, they are on ground to stop any unlawful assembly or stop any protest that could result in violence.

“Whoever loses at the tribunal still has the option of appeal; so, violence is not the best option, for it won’t be tolerated,” he said.
