A 20-year-old housewife has chopped off her husband’s penis to prevent him from marrying a second wife.
The suspect, Halima Ali, told police investigators in Jalingo, capital of Taraba State, that after giving her husband four children in their 10 years of marriage, she could not stand seeing another woman share her man with her.
Consequently, and according to the Taraba State Police Command, she drugged her husband, Ali Umar, and cut off his manhood with a sharp knife while he was in deep slumber.
The suspect, according to the police, committed the crime in the home in Tella community of Gassol Local Government Area of the state.
Now, Halima is facing a possible long time in prison for the dastardly act as the police have charged her with attempted culpable homicide.
While parading Halima and other suspects before journalists at the Taraba State Police Command Headquarters in Jalingo, the command’s public relations officer, Mr. David Misal, said the couple had, the previous day, had a serious fight.
Though the cause of the fight was not mentioned, the quarrel stoked the situation that almost caused Mr. Ali Umar, the husband, his life.
As at the time of this report, the hapless husband was still receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in Gombe State
Though Halima told journalists, during the parade, that jealousy drove her to cut off her husband’s manhood, she insisted that the devil made her to commit the crime.
She, however, advised women generally not to allow jealousy to overwhelm them or becloud their sense of judgement in order to avoid tragedy in their homes.
