Veteran Journalist, Unforgettable Eddie Aderinokun, is Dead; Buhari Mourns
President Muhammadu Buhari, Monday, joined millions of Ngerians to mourn veteran journalist, poet, author and sports administrator, Otunba Eddie Aderinokun, who died on Sunday, January 3, 2021, at the age of 80.
A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said Buhari recalled the over 60 years of essential journalism practice by the departed Daily Express Editor as well as his unforgettable contribution to knowledge via literature, especially poetry.
Author of many books, the late Aderinokun also contributed immensely to sports development in Nigeria.
“Also unforgettable are his footprints in sports development, particularly volleyball, where he made his mark as a very successful Chairman of the Nigerian Volleyball Federation,” says Buhari.
The President, according to Adesina, lauds the fact that Aderinokun, as President of Nigeria League of Veteran Journalists, shared his wealth of experience, and guided younger professionals on the path of ethics and good conduct. All these, the Presdient added, would be recorded in his favour by posterity.
Buhari condoled with the family, friends, the media, and sporting fraternity, urging them to strive to keep Otunba Aderinokun’s memory alive.
