The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Monday, confirmed that 685 new cases of COVID-19 and eight deaths from pandemic were recorded in Nigeria on Sunday, January 31, 2021.
Of the new cases, Lagos State maintained its unenviable status as the epicentre of the pandemic with 355 confirmed infections, followed by Kaduna with 58.
Others are: Nasarawa (46), Kano (40), Akwa Ibom (33), Katsina (26), Ogun (25), Osun (21), Rivers (16), Edo (15), Oyo (13), Ondo (12), Borno (11), Ekiti (9), Kebbi (3), and Plateau (2).
As at 3.13p.m., local time, on Monday, February 1, 2021, the total number of Nigerians tested since the beginning of the pandemic stood at 1,302,410.
Of these, there were 131,242 confirmed cases out of which 104,989 were successfully treated and discharged; leaving 24,667 active cases. Sadly, 1,586 deaths have been recorded in the 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory.
The NCDC, while announcing the new cases on its website, disclosed that “a multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities.”
