Former General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Gabriel Olusoji Farombi took a long look at the myriad of challenges confronting Nigeria, as well as the wanton shedding of blood across the country and urged Nigerians to be steadfast in prayers.
He also wanted them to do more: “get your voter’s card and vote.”
The octogenarian said though prayer can move mountains, it may not solve all the country’s problems. “We cannot be praying alone, we must all, including Christians, get our voters card and vote. Prayer without action will not yield the expected result,” he said.
On what he described as the unpleasant developments and challenges facing the country, including the unrelenting killings across the land, the former Foursquare leader told Nigerians not to lose hope. Rather, they should be steadfast in prayer for divine intervention, he said.
Farombi, who turned 80 on Sunday, August 12, 2018, made these declarations during an interactive session with journalists as part of activities marking the epoch at the national headquarters of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Yaba, Lagos.
“Despite all these troubles, I believe we still have hope,” declared Farombi who flew in for the celebration from his base in New York. “All these killings are very unpleasant. We are sad that people can slaughter human beings just because of money, because those who are killing are being sponsored. Also, it is insanity for one to think that it is when you kill a man that God will take you to heaven. It is deception, and deception will lead to division and division will lead to destruction.
“Even though we see them doing it from time to time, Christians must take their stand and be steadfast in prayers for this country. Before too long, Jesus Christ will come back. And when He comes back, it is only those who do His will that would go and reign with Him.”
Reverend Farombi was born on Friday, August 12, 1948. He became the General Overseer of Foursquare at the age of 40.
