Zamfara Shuts NTA, FRCN Gusau, 3 Others over Alleged Violation of Govt. Order

As it continues to battle the rash of banditry threatening to overwhelm it, the Zamfara State Government, Saturday, ordered that the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Gusau and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN)’s Pride FM, be shut down for allegedly violating government order and journalism practice.

The Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara, broke the news in Gusau on Saturday even as media industry decried the decision, describing it as repressive.

Other media orgainsations that got the hammer include: Gamji TV, Gamji FM and Al umma TV, all privately owned.

Dosara said the closure of the stations was approved by the State Security Council.

The Zamfara government did not stop at that; it also ordered that any of the affected stations caught violating the order would have its personnel arrested and prosecuted.
