Tinubu appoints Zacchaeus Adedeji as FIRS Chairman

...Directs Nami to proceed on 3-month pre-retirement leave

The tenure of the hardworking Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, Mr. Mohammed Nami, came to an abrupt end, Thursday, as President Bola Tinubu directed him to proceed on a three-month pre-retirement leave.

In his stead, the President appointed Hon. Zacchaeus Adedeji, a former Commissioner of Finance in Oyo State as the Acting Executive Chairman of the Service, with immediate effect.

A statement issued in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ajuri Ngelale, said the three-month pre-retirement vacation was in sync with the Public Service Rule (PSR) 120243, and this will lead to Mr. Nami’s eventual retirement from service on December 8, 2023.

However, Adedeji’s appointment will be in acting capacity for a 90-day period before his subsequent confirmation as the substantive Executive Chairman of the FIRS for a four-year term in the first instance.

Adedeji, a first-class accounting graduate from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, had served meritoriously as the Oyo State Commissioner for Finance and as the Executive Secretary/CEO of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC).
