On Monday, reprieve came the way of the 49 Yoruba Nation agitators arrested by the state police command on July 3, 2021, during a botched mega rally called to ramp up support for the actualisation of Yoruba Nation.

The police had herded the agitators into custody at the Gani Fawehimi Freedom Park, Ojota, venue of the Oodua Republic mega rally.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu, had, at a press briefing the following day, declared that the suspects were nabbed for subsisting violating the ban on rallies in the state.

But on Monday, a Lagos State Magistrate Court, sitting in Yaba, granted all 49 suspects following a motion for their bail application by human rights lawyers led by Olasupo Ojo and Oladapo Kayode.

Those granted reprieve included: Olasunkanmi Tanimola, Kabiru Lawanson, Chinemerem Emmanuel, Rasaki Musibau, Lukman Ololade, Olasanmi Oladipupo, Bashiru Shittu, Taofeek Abdusalam, Olamilekan Abata, Abdullahi Sikiru, Tosin Adeleye and Babatunde Lawal.

In a statement also on Monday, the Communications Manager for the umbrella body of the Yoruba self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, Mr Maxwell Adeleye, disclosed that the  agitators were granted bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties each. One of the sureties must be a family member and the other a community leader or a clergyman, both with proven evidence of tax payment.
