Banditry: Zamfara Gov Matawallen Suspends Emir, District Head
Zamfara State governor, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawallen Maradun has suspended the Emir of Maru, Alhaji.Abubakar Chika Ibrahim (Banagan Maru) and District head of Kanoma, Alhaji.Ahmed Lawal,(Bunun Kanoma) for their alleged involvement in armed banditry activities in the state.
In a press statement issued and signed by the Director Press Affairs to the Governor, Mallam Yusuf Idris, on Thursday, it was said that the suspension of the two traditional rulers came as a result of series of complaints from their subjects in their respective areas.
“The suspension was as a result of series of complaints from the community over their alleged involvement with bandits who have been killing, kidnapping and maiming different communities in the state,” the statement said.
He said the traditional rulers will remain suspended until the outcome of the investigation panel which will soon be set up by the state government.
The statement added that the Emir has been directed to hand over his official vehicles and all other government properties in his possession to the Senior District Head, while the District Head of Kanoma is to hand over same to the most senior village head in the community.
He explained that the suspension of the two traditional rulers is with immediate effects and subsequent handing over of government properties in their custody.
