The People’s democratic Party, PDP, has shown a glimpse of what the 2023 general election in Nigeria will look like as the party has been declared winner of the just concluded chairmanship election for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
Christopher Zakka (Maikalangu) of the PDP defeated his closest rival, Murtala Karshi (Yamarayi) of the All Progressive Congress (APC), and 10 others, to win the election.
Mr Zakka polled 19,302 votes while Karshi secured 13,249 votes.
AMAC, arguably the most cosmopolitan of the six area councils in Abuja, has 12 wards and includes the city centre of the Nigerian capital.’
The PDP won in 10 wards while the APC won in only two.
The results for AMAC were officially declared by the INEC Returning Officer, Sani Saka.
By securing AMAC, the PDP has now won in three of the four area councils which final results had been declared as of 11:55 a.m. on Sunday. The others won by the PDP are Kuje and Bwari.
Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress has won the chairmanship election for Gwagwalada Area Council at the Saturday Council elections.
Jubrin Abubakar, who is the candidate of the APC, has been declared as the Chairman-elect of the council.
He defeated his opponent, Mohammed Kassim of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as he garnered 11,125 votes and was declared by the INEC Returning Officer, ID Umar as the winner of the keenly contested election.
Meanwhile, Kassim of the PDP polled 9,597 votes.

The local elections held in the six Area Councils of Abuja namely Abaji, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali and Abuja Municipal (AMAC).
The polls were concluded on Saturday evening.
Though the APC won in Gwagwalada, the Peoples Democratic Party floored the APC to win Kuje chairmanship election.
The INEC has declared Suleman Sabo of the PDP as the winner of poll in Kuje Area Council.
This means that Sabo, the council’s current chairman will be in office for a second term, after he defeated five candidates in each of the 10 wards in the area council.
He had a total of 13,301 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sarki Hamidu of the APC, who had 7,694 votes.
