What on earth could make a well paid woman, an accountant for that matter, to take her own life? Was it a remote control over her life? Was it a case of depression arising from lack of marriage and childlessness?
These are the questions begging for answers at Lekki, Lagos, as a 47-year-old accountant, identified as Ms. Afolake Abiola committed suicide by having a cocktail of pesticides.
The incident occurred on Friday, May 27, 2022, at her 1, Abayomi Kukomi Close residence in Osapa London, Lekki, Lagos.
It was gathered that Afolake, who was single and childless, had suffered depression for a while before she decided to end it all by committing suicide.
“Afolake has been battling depression for a while on account of no husband and no child,” a family source said.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of Lagos State Police Command,Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin, a Superintendent of Police, said the incident happened on May 27, 2022.
He said: “When the policemen got to the scene, her family members were there and they officially requested that the corpse be released to them to enable them to bury her according to Islamic rites. Based on compassionate grounds, her corpse was released to her family for burial.”
