Rivers Crisis: Tinubu Meets Fubara, strategic stakeholders in Aso Rock

In a bid to douse the festering political fire threatening to consume Rivers State, President Bola Tinubu is currently meeting with stakeholders from the oil-bearing state at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

While Governor Siminalayi Fubara is leading the team from Rivers State, other stakeholders like former Governor Peter Odili; and some notable traditional rulers from the state are attending.

Also in attendance are: Vice President Kashim Shettima; and the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

According to Channels Television, the controversial Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and former Governor of the state, Barrister Nyesom Wike, was, at press time, expected to join the meeting.

For the past three months, Rivers State has been engulfed by a bizarre political drama that has consumed the state House of Assembly which was levelled by bulldozers last week; and seen 27 state lawmakers decamp to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, and 9 pro-Wike Commissioners resigning their appointment.

Earlier in October, President Tinubu had intervened in the festering crisis but rather than abate, the matter has snowballed into a near-conflagration which is currently threatening to consume the state.

The state House of Assembly has split into two, both holding parallel sittings, with an impeachment plot dangling on the head of Governor Fubara like the Sword of Damocles.
