UK, Nigeria Seal Deportation Deal to Curb Illegal Immigration
British Home Secretary and member of British Parliament for Whitham, Ms. Priti Patel, has announced that the United Government and Nigeria have sealed a deal that would effectively curb illegal migration.
The deal would allow both countries to deport illegal and undocumented migrants as illegal migration continues to snowball despite stringent measures, especially by the British authorities.
According to the British authorities, some 10,000 illegal migrants were deported between January 2019 and May 2022.
This June, 13 Nigerians and 18 Ghanaians were deported by the British authorities.
Patel broke the news on the new deal between Nigeria and Britain on her official Twitter handle on Friday, saying the agreement “will increase the deportation of dangerous foreign criminals to make our streets & country safer. And take the fight to the criminal people smugglers together to tackle illegal migration.”
