Dr. Antony S. Fauci, the medical giant who has, since 1984, led the war against several scourges that plagued the world, from HIV/AIDS to Covid-19, is calling it quit.
The medical ‘Field Marshal’, who strings of research and relentless campaigns against infectious diseases have saved millions of lives across the world, announced on Monday, that he would be leaving the job that has brought him so much fame and made him a global brand in December 2022.
Dr. Fauci has led the United States National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984, serving through seven presidential administrations.
President Joe Biden has praised him profusely.
In a statement on Monday, Dr. Fauci said:
“I am announcing today that I will be stepping down from the positions of Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and Chief of the NIAID Laboratory of Immunoregulation, as well as the position of Chief Medical Advisor to President Joe Biden. I will be leaving these positions in December of this year to pursue the next chapter of my career.”
