Former governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau on Monday renounced his senatorial candidacy on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), to join the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
Shekarau defected to PDP and collapsed his political structure while pledging to work for the party’s victory in 2023.
At an event in his residence in Kano, Shekarau informed PDP supporters: “I have abandoned my candidacy and will not seek election into the Senate on the platform of the NNPP.”
He was received by the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, alongside his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa and the national Charman, Iyorchia Ayu.
Other top chieftains of the party at the event include Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, Taraba State governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, and President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senator, Ahmed Babba Kaita, who defected to the PDP one month ago.
