Kanye West seemingly renounced his support for President Donald Trump. After going to the White House on October 11, the rapper said he wants to take a break from politics. More, West said he was being “used” and rather focus his attention on being creative.
“My eyes are now wide open and now realize I’ve been used to spread messages I don’t believe in,” he tweeted Tuesday. I am distancing myself from politics and completely focusing on being creative!!!”
The move was quickly dubbed “YExit” by some Twitter followers. It’s a play on words with Blexit, which was started by Candance Owens, who wants black people to leave the Democratic party. It was erroneously reported that West created the movement after he helped design Blexit shirts.
“I am entirely blessed that Ye introduced me to a designer who despite having totally different political views than me, helped me craft some beautiful letters that I used on the BLEXIT caps. The insinuation that Kanye is now the author of my political movement is pointedly wrong and dishonest,” Owens wrote last week. “Ye supports various people in different regards, because at the end of the day—his a message about unity and love.”
While at the White House with Trump, West went on a rant where he said various outlandish things. Some of them were that the president was on a hero’s journey, that Trump had support from a “crazy mother-f***** like me” and that wearing a Make America Great Again hat made West feel like Superman.
“I love [2016 Democratic presidential nominee] Hillary [Clinton]. I love everyone, but the campaign ‘I’m with her’ just didn’t make me feel—as a guy…it was something about this hat that made me feel like Superman,” West said on October 11.
West, 41, also talked about liberals, blacks, and racism during his bizarre White House visit. “One of the moves I love that liberals try do: A liberal would try to control a black person through the concept of racism because they know we’re very proud, emotional people. So when I said ‘I like Trump’ to someone that’s liberal they’ll say, ‘Oh, but he’s racist.’ You think racism can control me? Oh, that don’t stop me. That’s an invisible wall,” he said.
His mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, told Ellen DeGeneres she wished West would keep some of his opinions private after his “very spontaneous” meeting with Trump. “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s so Kanye.’ He was sharing thoughts and things of himself. But I would rather he share some of that stuff privately. Obviously, that would be great,” she said.
