A magistrate court sitting in the Ajah area of Lagos, Friday, ordered that hip-hop recording artiste, Ice Prince Zamani, be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
The ‘Oleku’ crooner was arraigned before the court by the Lagos State Police Command on Friday on a three-count charge of assault, obstructing a policeman from carrying out his statutory duties and abduction.
But when the counts were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty.
Consequently, Magistrate Taiwo Oyaniyi granted him bail in the sum of N500,000, even as he was ordered to provide two responsible sureties.
That’s not all. The Magistrate ordered that Ice Prince be remanded in the correctional facility pending when he meets the bail conditions. The Magistrate then adjourned further proceedings in the case till September 7, 2022.
Spokesperson of the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin, a Superintendent of Police, SP, had taken to his Twitter handle, @BenHundeyin, to announce Ice Prince’ arrest.
Hundeyin said: “At 3 am today, Ice prince was stopped for driving without license plates.
“He agreed to be taken to the station. He, thereafter, abducted the police officer in his car, assaulted him, and threatened to throw him in the river. He has been arrested and would be arraigned today.”
This development came a few days after Lagos State Police Command had declared that singer Daniel Benson, professionally known as BNXN, will face sanctions for assaulting and spitting on a police officer.
Earlier in the week, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Usman Alkali Baba, had announced that anyone that assaults or disrespects officer would, henceforth, be dealt according to the law.
