There were viral reports in the wee hours of Sunday, June 6, 2021, that popular but controversial televangelist and founder of The Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, Prophet Temitope Joshua, has died.

A leading Abuja-based newspaper, Leadership, broke the news in the wee hours of Sunday, saying the man of God died Saturday evening after conducting a service in his church.

The credible newspaper did not disclose the cause of the death of the renowned prophet who would have turned 58 next Saturday, June 12, 2021.

There was no statement by the church at the time of this report.

The Crest could also not independently confirm the story as at the time of filing this report.

But his profile on Wikipedia, the online dictionary, has been adjusted to reflect his death on June 5, 2021, at 57.

T.B Joshua, as the founder of The Synagogue Church of All Nations, and Emmanuel TV was popularly called, was born on June 12, 1963, and hailed from Arigidi Akoko in Ondo State.

In 2011, Forbes listed the charismatic pastor as the third richest pastor in Nigeria, worth between US$10 and 15 billion.

Married to Evelyn Joshua, the prophet, according to Wikipedia, was known for his popularity across Africa and Latin America and his social media presence with 3,500,000 fans on Facebook.

His YouTube channel, Emmanuel TV, had over 1,000,000 YouTube subscribers and was the world’s most viewed Christian ministry on the platform before it was suspended.

Described as the “Oprah of Evangelism”, and “YouTube’s most popular Pastor”, T.B. Joshua won various local and international awards. But his most important honour came from home in 2008 when the Nigerian Government awarded him the National Honour of the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic, OFR.

He was voted the Yoruba man of the decade by Pan-Yoruba media outlet, Irohin-Odua. He was named as one of Africa’s 50 most influential people by Pan-African magazines, The Africa Report, and New African Magazine.

In 2011, Forbes named Joshua as Nigeria’s third-richest pastor. But the church reacted quickly with a rebuttal.

T.B. Joshua was not without his own measure of scandals but he waded through them all. In 2010, he was ‘blacklisted’ by the government of Cameroun.
