New Naira Notes: First Bank Begins Saturday Banking to Ease Return of old Notes

To help its customers beat the January 31, 2023 deadline for the old naira notes to cease from circulation, First Bank Plc has announced the introduction of Saturday banking.

In notices posted to customers’ email addresses and on its website, the bank said it took the decision to make the transition from the old currencies to new ones easy for its numerous customers.

The bank writes; “Further to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) announcement that the new Naira notes will come into circulation from 15 December 2022, and existing Naira notes will cease being legal tenders from 31 January 2023, please note that in line with our drive to always put You First, a number of our branches nationwide will now provide Saturday banking services to our customers from 10 am – 1 pm, starting from Saturday, 5 November 2022.

It is important to note that

  • You can start depositing your Naira notes into your FirstBank accounts immediately, there will be no charges for cash returned/paid into your accounts.
  • The present notes remain legal tenders and should not be rejected as a means of exchange for the purchase of goods and services
  • You can withdraw the new notes from your account once circulation begins in December 2022.”
