FG Extends Resumption of Abuja-Kaduna Train Services By Another Week
…Says no Identification card, no access
The Federal Government, on Sunday, extended the resumption date for the Abuja-Kaduna rail services.
Minister of Transportation, Mr. Mu’azu Sambo, revealed this to journalists in Kaduna during a facility tour designed to assess the state of operational readiness of the Abuja-Kaduna rail services.
The Abuja–Kaduna train service was attacked in the evening of March 28, 2022, in Katari, Kaduna State. There were 362 passengers and 20 crew members on board when the train was brought to a halt with explosives after which the terrorists moved in and opened fire on passengers.
At least eight passengers were killed, 28 seriously injured and 168 abducted during the deadly attack.
This prompted the Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, to suspend operations on the route.
Last week, the media was awash with reports that the suspended services would be restored on Monday, November 28, 2022.
But this has may have been postponed by another week though the Transport Minister did not give a specific date for the resumption. He, however, assured that it would not be more than a week.
However, the Minister confirmed that the Federal Government has introduced a new ticketing system which, he said, marks the beginning of security checks designed to ascertain who boards the train at every point in time. This means persons without proper identification would not be allowed on board.
