Brutal Murder of Bolanle Raheem: Killer Cop, Drambi Vandi, charged, detained in Ikoyi Prison
By Fijabi Philips
The wheel of justice may have started rolling against the trigger- happy policeman who brutally murdered a female Lagos lawyer/realtor, Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem, and her unborn twins, on Christmas Day in the Ajah area of Lagos.
This is because the Lagos State Government, through its Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, on Friday, filed a one-count charge against the killer cop, Drambi Vandi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, for the gruesome murder of Mrs. Raheem.
Murderous cop Drambi Vandi was charged to court less than 24 hours after the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, accompanied by Onigbanjo and Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information, visited the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Alkali Baba Usman, in Abuja, pressing for the speedy prosecution of the suspected killer.
Consequent upon the charge before a Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Yaba, the Chief Magistrate, Adeola Olatunbosun, ordered the remand of ASP Drambi Vandi in the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending the conclusion of investigation into the bestial crime.
The Lagos State Attorney-General, Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN, filed a one-count charge against the killer cop, and applied that he be remanded pursuant to Section 264 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos, 2015.
The Attorney General told the Chief Magistrate that the basis for the remand was to allow the police to conclude its investigations into the matter.
Consequently, the Chief Magistrate granted the request to remand the defendant at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre and ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecution, Dr. Jide Martins, for legal advice.
She then adjourned to the matter till January 30, 2023, to await legal advice.
The Crest recalls reports that said that the killer cop was reportedly drunk when he engaged the husband of the deceased lawyer/realtor in an argument. And that all entreaties to Drambi Vandi by his colleagues to allow the deceased’s husband go fell on deaf ears.
Mr. Raheem was said to be driving the car as at the time of the tragedy.
Reports said the killer cop opened fire on the car while Mr. Raheem was looking for a space to park, and the bullet hit the deceased’s chest and she reportedly died on the spot.
