Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu, confirmed Saturday that Boko Haram terrorists actually launched an 81mm mortal attack on Gwoza, Borno State, to drive fear into the minds of voters and discourage them from exercising their franchise.
Yakubu made the revelation during his second election day press briefing, saying that the attack took place early in the morning and caused panic.
He further revealed that though several people suffered varying degrees of injuries, there were no deaths. In particular, he disclosed that the mortal hit two facilities, both filling stations, and no INEC facility or staff was affected.
He commiserated with victims receiving treatment in hospital and restated INEC’s resolve to deliver a credible election to Nigerians and Nigeria.
