Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu, has formally declared open the National Collation Centre for the presidential election results in Abuja.
He did so, Sunday afternoon, with a stern warning to those bandying results all over social media to stop immediately as it constitutes serious infraction against the Electoral Act.
After highlighting the four layers involved in the collation of results, Prof. Yakubu warned that INEC is the only authority constitutionally mandated to announce results.
He, therefore, told journalists and media houses to publish only results sanctioned and announced on the floor of the National Collation Centre.
The National Collation Centre, Yakubu then announced that the centre will rise and reconvene at 6p.m. when he was sure results must have started coming in from the states.
