IGP Pays Historic Visit to Arase, new PSC Chairman

...Pledges Commitment to Better Working Relationship

Dr. Solomon Arase welcoming the IGP and his entourage to the CommissionThe Inspector General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, made history in Abuja on Monday when he became the first IGP to pay a courtesy visit to a Chairman of the Police Service Commission, PSC, an oversight agency saddled with the responsibility of recruitment of constables, promotion and discipline of officers and personnel in the Nigeria Police Force, NPF.

Alkali Baba chalked his name on the Force’s Hall of Fame when he led his management team to visit Dr. Arase in his office at the Federal Secretariat Complex, Central Business District, Abuja.

According to a release issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a Chief Superintendent of Police, the IGP congratulated the PSC Chair on his appointment and subsequent swearing-in by President Muhammadu Buhari, assuring him of the NPF’s full cooperation to achieve an enviable policing system for the country.

The meeting which, according to the FPRO, was at the instance of the IGP, was geared towards cementing the existing relationship between the NPF and the Commission for an improved working relationship.

While appreciating the IGP and the Force leadership for the visit, the management team assured that all necessary support will be deployed to ensure the Force is repositioned for better service delivery. He similarly expressed optimism in the quest to build stronger ties, work out more areas of collaboration, and improve discipline within the ranks of the Force.

The Inspector-General of Police reiterated the commitment to engage with the PSC to strengthen the disciplinary mechanism of the Force and stimulate continuous Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) meetings more frequently to dispense with matters of discipline amongst senior officers of the Force. The IGP and the PSC Chair similarly visited the site of the new PSC office complex to ascertain the level of work towards its completion.
