Hurray! University of Ilesa Takes Off At Last as Gov Adeleke Appoints VC

The apprehension that gripped Ilesa, the gold city in Osun State,when Governor Ademola Adeleke, on assumption of office, halted activities at the University of  Ilesa, and set up a committee to review the state of things at the institution melted away Thursday as he approved principal officers for the university.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Osun State, Hon Teslim Igbalaye, conveyed the great news to the world Thursday when he issued letters of appointment to the institution’s principal officers.

This was revealed by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson to the Governor in Osogbo, the capital.

Consequently, Prof. Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu has emerged the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the university.

Other Principal Officers approved by the governor, named and issued letters of appointment by the SSG are:

  1. Funso Olawale Ojo-Registrar
  1. Mukaila Oyesegun Oyekanmi-Bursar
  1. Adewale Amobi Ogunsipe-Librarian

The new Vice Chancellor, Dr. Taiwo Asaolu, is a professor of accounting and finance. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, FCA, he is a former Dean of the Faculty of Administration, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria.

Asaolu was the Chairman of the University of Ilesa Review Committee which was set up by Governor Adeleke to address all outstanding issues for the eventual take-off of the university.

The SSG, who also hosted the appointees in his office, charged them to uphold the virtue of professionalism and integrity which endeared them to the State Governor, and which recommended them for the appointments.
