Moments after the Supreme Court judgement that ratified the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the February 25, 2023 presidential poll, a group, the Coalition for Good Governance and Change Initiatives, on Thursday, sent a passionate appeal to the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, not to abandon Nigeria.
The group, Coalition for Good Governance and Change Initiatives, urged the duo not to be frustrated by the verdict but take it in their strides and join hands with President Tinubu to make Nigeria great again.
The coalition, according to a report by Punch newspapers, made the appeal during a solidarity rally held at the Eagle Square, Abuja, to celebrate the validation of Tinubu’s election as President.
Addressing journalists at the event, the National Coordinator of the coalition, Okpokwu Ogenyi, appealed to “all those who participated in the last Presidential election to join the new Nigeria of our dream, an egalitarian Nation where peace and justice shall reign.
“We specifically single out the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, and the candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, not to abandon Nigeria. It is our opinion that they should stay back and contribute meaningfully to the project in Nigeria.”
Ogenyi profusely praised the national Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for “a job well done,” and declared that “Within your few months in the office, the APC is winning from all angles. Your resilience in repositioning the party has added value to our democracy and has thus contributed in no small measure, to the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.”
Recall that on Thursday, a seven-man panel of the Supreme Court, led by Justice John Okoro had unanimously affirmed the election of President Tinubu, and dismissed the appeals of Atiku and Obi.
The justices thrashed the application of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar seeking to present Tinubu’s credentials obtained from the Chicago State University as evidence supporting his claim that the President submitted a forged document to the Independent National Electoral Commission, in the build-up to the general elections.
