Even as the Federal Government took urgent step to stem the ongoing nationwide strike in the bud, striking workers of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, have thrown the country into a total blackout, shutting down the national grid.
This was confirmed, Tuesday, by the spokesperson for TCN, Ms. Ndidi Mbah, who declared that electricity workers, being members of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, were only following the directives of the union.
“Electricity workers are NLC members; they’ve followed the directive by organized labour to withdraw their services from Tuesday,” she declared in the statement.
The escalation of the strike by electricity workers came just as the Minister of Labour, Employment and Productivity, Barrister Simon Lalong, convened a meeting with the leaders of the NLC and TUC, scheduled for Tuesday, November 14.
