[BREAKING] 2023: Atiku Abubakar Emerges PDP Flag Bearer
Just like he did four years ago in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Saturday night, clinched the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the party’s special convention held at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
In the event presided over by former Senate President, Senator David Mark, Abubakar scored 371 votes to beat his closest rival and governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyesom Wike who got 237 votes.
Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki scored 70 votes while Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel score 38.
In his acceptance speech, Abubakar pledged to work assiduously to unite Nigerians all over the country regardless of their ethnicity, creed or religion.
The PDP standard bearer also pledged to confront the monstrous problem of insecurity frontally, as well as the economy which he claimed that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, had destroyed.
He also extended the olive branch to his co-contestants and promised to work with them to secure victory for the party in the 2023 presidential elections, and lead Nigeria out of the dire strait it is currently enmeshed.
The country now waits with bated breathe to see how APC handles its own convention and select its flag bearer.
