Bandits Again! Strike Sokoto School, Kidnap 15 Students
Seventy-two hours after dare-devil bandits stormed Government Secondary School, GSS, Kuriga, in Chukun District of Kaduna State, and abducted 287 students, gunmen attacked another school in Sokoto State, Saturday morning, and went away with at least 15 students.
The distraught proprietor of the besieged Tsangava school at Gidan Bakuso in Gada local government area of Sokoto State, Mallam Liman Abubakar, told journalists that the gunmen attacked the school at about 1.a.m. on Saturday, and when they left, 15 students were unaccounted for.
There were fears at press time that the figure could be higher.
According to Abubakar, the gunmen, believed to be bandits, invaded the town around 1a.m., shot one person and abducted a woman.
And, “As they were leaving the town, they sighted our students rushing into their rooms and they kidnapped many of them,” Abubakar said.
“We have so far counted 15 who are missing and we are still searching for more.”
Saturday’s attack, according to Abubakar, was not the first time the village came under siege by devilish marauders.
Hon. Kabiru Dauda, member representing Gada-East Constituency at the Sokoto State House of Assembly, also confirmed the incident, stating that he received a call from the village around 2a.m, informing him that the village had been invaded by armed bandits.
“I reached out to the local government authorities and security agencies and I am sure they are doing something about it,” he said.
Other reports revealed that bandits attacked and killed three persons at Turba village in Isa Local Government Area of the state, including the village head.
However, the spokesman of the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, told Daily Trust newspaper that he was not aware of the development but he would contact the Divisional Police Officer of the affected local government areas and report back appropriately.
