President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, for Dakar, Senegal, to attend the inauguration of the country’s President-elect, Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
Born on March 25, 1980, Faye, commonly known as Diomaye, a former tax inspector-turned-politician, and general secretary of the banned party PASTEF, won the 2024 Senegalese presidential election in place of disqualified candidate Ousmane Sonko.
When inaugurated on Tuesday, Faye, 44, will replace outgoing President Macky Sall who has ruled the West African nation for 12 years.
A release by presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, said Tinubu’s trip is on the invitation of the Republic of Senegal.
President Tinubu, who is the Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, will join other regional leaders to witness the inauguration at Diamniadio Exhibition Centre on Tuesday.
Tinubu will be accompanied on the trip by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and other senior government officials.
The President is expected to return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the inauguration.
