For the third time in 2024, the national electricity grid has collapsed.

This accounts for the current agonizing experience of Nigerians across the country who either have epileptic supply of power or none at all.

Citing available data, ThisDay newspaper reported that the grid collapsed around 2:42 a.m., on Monday, crashing generation to as low as 64.70 megawatts, and leaving the Ibom Power as the only functional plant.

Meanwhile, Jos Disco has apologised to its customers for the glitch, blaming the grid collapse for the prevailing outage.

“The current outage being experienced within our franchise states is a result of loss of power supply from the national grid,” said the company’s head of Corporate Affairs, Dr. Friday Adakole.

“The loss of power supply from the national grid occurred in the early hours at about 02.42 hours today, Monday, April 15, 2024, hence the loss of power supply on all our feeders.”

However, a ray of hope started showing on the horizon by noon as the glitch was being addressed with total generation by the active plants rising to over 700 megawatts.
