Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, on Saturday, rose in stout condemnation of the gruesome murder of five soldiers in the state’s commercial nerve centre, Aba, placing a ₦25m bounty on the heads of the murderers.

The Governor promised to pay anyone who can provide credible information that may lead to the arrest of the blood-mongering criminals.

Otti met the widows of the murdered soldiers at 144 Battalion Asa, Ukwa West LGA, where he was received on arrival by the Commander of 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Brigadier General O. O. Diya.

The five soldiers were killed at Obikabia, Obingwa Local Government Area of the state, on Thursday, May 30, 2024, by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen

On the bounty, Otti stated on X: “We have announced a ₦25m bounty on the heads of the criminals for anyone who can come up with any information that will lead to their apprehension.”

“To the wives of our fallen heroes, it is indeed a difficult moment, and we sympathize with you.

The governor condemned thee heinous crime, declaring: “What happened is regrettable, and we cannot move on without identifying those who are responsible for this heinous crime and anyone remotely connected to it.”

Describing the attack as an “irresponsible and dastardly act committed by criminals who do not want any good for society,” Otti assured Nigerians that his government would work with security agencies to hunt and nab the criminals and bring them to account.

“We are going to work with the security agencies to ensure that we bring the assailants to justice,” he said.

The Governor then commended the Commander of 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Brigadier General Olusola Diya, for his role in calming the highly volatile situation, saying: “I also want to thank Brigadier General Olusola Diya, the Commander of 14 Brigade, Ohafia for heeding my call and de-escalating the tension in Aba.”
