By Damilola Emmanuel

The Federal Government, Saturday, declared Tuesday, October 1, 2024, as a public holiday in commemoration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day.

The independence celebrations, the Presidency had earlier hinted, would be low-key.

Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary in his Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo, in the statement, congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on the occasion. He commended the patience, resilience and hard-work of Nigerians, assuring that their sacrifices will never be in vain.

The minister aligned himself with the theme for the anniversary, reiterating the need for Nigerians to reflect on the “labour of our heroes past and be inspired for the tasks ahead, realizing that a Nigeria of our dream can only be built when we unite.”

Tunji-Ojo wished his compatriots a Happy Independence Day Anniversary, and urged them to continue to be steadfast in nation-building.
