For 2nd Time in 24 Hours, National Grid Collapses
For the second time in 24 hours, the national electricity grid collapsed again Tuesday morning, paralyzing many businesses.
Many parts of the country had been plunged into darkness at about 6.18p.m. on Monday, plunging many homes and organisations into darkness.
The problem, according to reports, became noticeable when power generation dropped from 3.87 gigawatts at 5 p.m. Monday, to 3.56GW at 6 pm., before plunging to 0.00GW between 7 pm. and 8 pm.
Rather than abate, the problem continued Tuesday morning at abpout 9.17 am when the grid collapsed again.
Again, reports said that by 10 am, Tuesday, grid supply had suddenly crashed to 0.00MW across all regions, for the second time, making the whole nation to groan under the prospect of another nationwide blackout.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, confirmed the system collapse in a statement, saying:
“Dear Valued Customer, kindly be informed that there was a system collapse at 09:17hrs, which has resulted in a loss of power supply across our network.
“We are currently working with our partners and hope for a speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as the power supply is restored,” the company stated.
