Kaduna Imposes Movement Restriction for Saturday’s LG Polls

Ahead of the local government holding on Saturday, October 19, 2024, the Kaduna State Security Council has imposed a restriction of movement throughout the state between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. during the exercise.

According to the council, it took the decision in the interest of peace and to forestall any disruption to the process.

Revealing this in a statement he issued on Friday, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, emphasized that the restriction was imposed to ensure a peaceful and orderly council poll.

The restriction affects vehicular movement as well as commercial and other related activities that might impede law and order.

Aruwan said the vote, which would hold in 255 wards and 23 local government councils, were crucial for the state’s development, adding that the government was leaving no stone unturned to guarantee success.

He further stated that the restriction became expedient in order to prevent any security breach.

“The restriction of movement is aimed at preventing any individual or group from disrupting the electoral process,” the commissioner explained. “We want to ensure that the elections are conducted peacefully and without any incidents.”

Aruwan urged strict compliance to the order by citizens adding that only persons performing essential duties will be exempted but they would be required to provide proper identification and clearance.

“We have deployed adequate security personnel to enforce the restriction and maintain law and order,” the Commissioner said. “We urge citizens to cooperate with security agents and report any suspicious activities.”

He urged citizens to refrain from actions that could disrupt public peace or affect the smooth conduct of the elections.

“We appeal to citizens to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid any actions that may be perceived as disruptive. Let’s work together to ensure a successful election.

“Let’s work together to ensure a peaceful and successful election. We must prioritize the interests of our state and our people.

“The Kaduna State Security Operations Room is reachable for reporting any observed acts that threaten law and order on 09034000060 or 08170189999,” Aruwan added.
