Incessant National Power Grid Collapse: NERC to Hold Public Hearing, Thursday

Embarrassed by the incessant failure of the national electricity grid, and in response to calls for solid remedies by Nigerians, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has announced that it would hold a public hearing on the matter on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

The Commission revealed this in a statement on its social media handle on Sunday, saying the move was in tandem with Section 48, subsection 1 of the Electricity Act 2023 (as amended).

Barring any last-minute changes, the public hearing will hold on the said date at the Commission’s Hearing Room, Fourth Floor, Plot 1387, Cadastral Zone A0O, Central Business District, Abuja, starting from 10 a.m.

The statement reads in part: “In line with Section 48, subsection 1 of the Electricity Act 2023 (Amended), the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission is mandated to conduct public hearings on critical issues relating to the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.

“The commission has noted with concern the recent escalating incidence of grid disturbances often leading to marked outages in several states thus reversing many of the gains recently achieved in reducing infrastructure deficit and improving grid stability.

“In this regard, the commission hereby invites NESI stakeholders, civil society organisations, and the general public to a hearing which is scheduled as follows:

“Date: Thursday, 24th October, 2024 Venue: Commission’s Hearing Room, Fourth Floor, Plot 1387, Cadastral Zone A0O, Central Business District, Abuja.”
