#EndBadGovernance: All 119 Protesters Released as Court Strikes out Case
...Protesters to be formally received in Abuja
A Federal High Court in Abuja, Tuesday, struck out the charges brought against all 119 #EndBadGovernance protesters.
The protesters, including 30 minors, were subsequently released, and would be flown to Abuja where they would be formally received at the Women Development Centre by the Humanitarian Affairs Minister before being handed over to officials of Kano State government.
The Crest recalls that all 119 protesters were arraigned on Friday, November 1, 2024, and charged with treason felony, inciting to mutiny, among others.
The defendants, who were arraigned in two batches at the previous proceeding, pleaded not guilty.
The first batch comprising 76 protesters included the 32 minors who President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered their immediate release on Monday, while the second batch consisted of 43 protesters.
The Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, had, Tuesday, taken over the case and indicated its discontinuation. And there was no objection from lawyers on both sides.
Consequently, the trial judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu, struck out the suit following an application by the counsel to the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. M. D Abubakar, to take over and discontinue the matter.
