Come and See Sir! NNPCL Invites Obasanjo for Facility Tour of Port Harcourt Refinery

Mele Kyari and NNPCL LogoThe Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Thursday, invited former President, Olusegun Obasanjo for a tour of the refurbished the Port Harcourt refinery.

This invitation was contained in a statement issued by the corporation’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, in apparent response to Obasanjo’s questioning of the operational capacity of the Port Harcourt Refinery in an interview.

Obasanjo had, in the said interview with Channels Television, vigorously questioned the operational capacity of the Port Harcourt Refinery which started production only recently after having been moribound for decades.

Soneye, in the statement, listed the achievements of the NNPCL, and explained that the invitation being extended to the former President is to enable him see things for himself.

Should Obasanjo accept the invitation, the NNPCL enthused, the proposed facility visit would enable him verify the operational status of the oil processing facility in Port Harcourt.

“We extend an invitation to our esteemed former president to join us in this historic journey,” the NNPCL said in the statement. “His wisdom and experience are invaluable, and we deeply appreciate his insights and guidance, which will always be welcomed and cherished.” the NNPCL said.

“Additionally, we warmly invite President Obasanjo to tour the rehabilitated refineries and witness firsthand the progress made under the leadership of NNPC Limited.

“We remain grateful for his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s development and are committed to building a brighter, more prosperous future for our nation.”

Soneye also informed that the NNPCL did not only carry out turnaround maintenance on the plant but also a complete overhaul of the refinery.

“This is not the typical Turnaround Maintenance (TAM) of the past but a comprehensive overhaul designed to meet world-class standards,” Soneye continued in the statement. “Similar efforts are underway at the old Port Harcourt Refinery and Kaduna Refinery, ensuring these facilities are enhanced and maintained to global standards for sustainable operation.”.

“This progress has been driven by the visionary leadership of the NNPC Limited board and the management team led by GCEO Mele Kyari, alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s transformative policies in the energy sector.
