Presidential vote: PDP asks INEC to stop announcement of results

NIGERIA DECIDES

With more than three quarters of the results in last Saturday’s presidential election released, the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Tuesday night, asked the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to halt further announcement of the results.

Deputy Director-General of the PDP presidential campaign organisation, Mr. Kabiru Turaki, made the call during a press conference he addressed in company of other party officials.

Turaki said INEC should halt the process until it has produced the data of the accreditation done by smart card readers during the vote.

The party said it made the call alleging that votes cast for it in its strongholds were cancelled, “particularly in Yobe, Nasarawa, Zamfara and Plateau.”

Therefore, Turaki declared: “The PDP demands the immediate discontinuation of the announcement until data from the use of card readers are made available.”
